Caitlin Connelly

musician, songwriter, all-round fun gal

Caitlin Connelly is a Rocky Mountain artist rooted in evergreen-fresh folk and small-town splendour. Inspired by canyons, caves, and excruciating break-ups, she uses thoughtfully-woven vocal melodies and careful fingerpicking to honestly channel emotion-filled experiences into mindful art. Connelly is notoriously nomadic and credits motion as one of the most influential and constant anchors in her mercurial lifestyle. With a home-base in Banff National Park, the songwriter has also created space for herself on Vancouver Island, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, Melbourne, and Bali. She has had opportunities both career-building and breath-taking, such as performing from sea to sea - Vancouver to Halifax - on a passenger train, filming music videos in Hollywood, and hitch-hiking thousands of kilometres through the outback of Australia and the California coast.

Fronting several bands (and EP's & albums) through the years, Connelly shifted focus to her travelling duo, Johnas & Connelly,  in 2015. January of 2017 saw the release of their debut album, "For Brothers & Forefathers", a piece crafted from the shaded corners of sadness, longing, and displacement. The album is Johnas & Connelly’s first self-engineered record, using different locations as a studio: thirty-seven acres of rolling hills in the tiny gold rush village of Rock Creek, an island retreat in oceanside Lantzville, and a run-down room in the defibrillated heart of Surrey, BC. However, the pair soon-after separated and only managed to tour Southern California after the album’s release.

After a winter’s hibernation and a taste of musical independence, the two folk artists reunited in 2018 to record their second full-length album, "If It Spoke For Itself". This sophomore instalment chronicles the perpetual shift in the twosome’s relationship; specifically the branch of time that left both artists humbly learning each other’s instruments and writing separately in the wake of their estrangement. Another self-produced and engineered creation, "If It Spoke For Itself" was released in March of 2019.

In 2021, Connelly began recording her fourth full-length (but first solo) album “Death + Other Endings” in Victoria, BC, while navigating a pandemic-affected world of live performance. The album sits unfinished, as a demo, waiting to be refined and reinvigorated.

Connelly currently enjoys a fruitful full-time career in music based in Southern Alberta.
